You ve read it here before, but it can never be said enough Some of life s greatest lessons are taught by our canine companions There is not a moment during a day when they don t know exactly what to do Year after year, according to their age, they savor what should be savored and ignore that which should be ignored For this reason, they experience joy, contentment and peace in equal measure If a dog is sharing your home multiple treks are a daily event If you want to see a dog smile, say walk or outside Olive Pekoe In Four Short Walks Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers, March 5, 2019 written by Jacky Davis with illustrations by Giselle Potter gives us a pooch s point of view during four outings Their personalities quickly emerge, reinforcing the notion of opposites do attract. My full recommendation

Hmm This was structured like a beginning reader, but formatted like a picture book It was reminiscent of many of the great friend beginning readers George and Martha, Elephant and Piggie, Frog and Toad The stories were engaging but the difference between Olive Pekoe mostly consisted of Pekoe or was it Olive being old, tired and wiser I think some kids will like this, especially those that love any dog character, or who have an old dog at home, but I do not think the old young dynamic speaks as powerfully to young children as other contrasts might.

Favorite illustrator simple, effective art Old experienced vs Young energetic dichotomy Four Episodes cute Table of Contents Walk Oneetc Story shows differences without overt conflict characters observe and reflect on each other A commonality especially in the first walk at the end is the resolution it wasn t a change in their behaviors Language is not overly simplistic syntax and vocabulary.

A good, uncomplicated, non innuendo children s book with no sarcasm Simplistic tales about 2 dogs who run into obstacles of age, weather, nature, and bullies Welcome change of pace from children s books that seem written for adults and this book is perfect for those about to start to school or those who just have Wholesome illustrations and a joy to read that can lead to QA with young readers over what they ve read.

Inspired by the authors own dogs and the walks they take together, this lovely picture book has four chapter stories about two doggie friends Olive is older and shorter and Pekoe is younger and energetic But even though they re different, they enjoy being together to take walks and play The stories deal with issues such as thunderstorms, bullies, and friendly differences.

  7. says:

Olive and Pekoe are dog friends They are opposites in many ways color, size, age, interests However they are good friends and have come to appreciate each other s strong points They willingly share their strengths with each other as they take their walks together A calm book with good points about friendship for young children.

  8. says:

Quiet collection of 4 stories based on 2 friends walks adventures Love the characterizations of the young and old dogs Readers are sure to connect to the different stages of their canine buddies lives Always enjoy Potter s illustrations, be sure to look at the case cover to see a photo of the creators dogs on which the book is based

The adventures of Olive, a small and slow dog with short legs and older, and Pekoe a young and very big , bouncy dog Although quite different they are best friends This collection of four short stories shares times with them walking in the woods, getting caught in a thunderstorm, meeting a chipmunk, and dealing with a bully.

  10. says:

A sweet and clever tale of two dogs at opposite ends of their life journey In each of the four walks, Olive and Pekoe have different perspectives and reactions to the same events Both are valid and they adore one another s company This is a great choice for animal, friendship, or empathy story times.
